I've been thinking a lot lately about my favorite people to do makeup on, you know, the best canvases. And I realized I haven't listed those current pop culture mugs I would love to beat. so for the next few days i will be giving you a list of MY top ten current faces. So here goes...and try not to put me in a BOX, I might just suprise you....

Yes. The artist affectionately known as M.I.A. although not a likely MUA pick, Maya's ability to transcend past any visual distraction is hard to find. The woman could walk around with a boat on her head and still be devastatingly present. When I look at her, it's hard for me to focus on anything but those incredibly sad eyes, full, pouty lips and obtuse, angled nose. Her face is fantastic! And i would readily beat her MUG!!!! Anyday.

Just take a look...

It takes a star to shine through certain kinds of looks. And Maya certainly shines bright.

And other times you are able to work with individuals that are not only talented, but carry a great spirit with them. I promise you it was like I wasn't even working. Stop and Smell the Lilly's

It was in undergrad that I found her. 500 miles away from my SoFla home, in Tallahassee, Fl I began my research on the Pulitzer family. It was only natural that I wanted one of their famed [Pulitzer] Prizes as a budding writer. But I didn't know why the award was so great, other than if you won it, you'd be set for your literary life.
So I began my research on the Joseph Pulitzer tribe, digging and prodding for something truly interesting. That's when I found her- a streak of tangerine across a line of people unbelievably newsprint gray. Lilly Pulitzer married into the family, moved with her new husband to Palm Beach, and lived a lifestyle so far removed from her upper crust New York socialite lifestyle she could have been considered a beat. But she was so much more fabulous.
Enter my obsession. The next time I took the 6 hour drive back to SoFla I stopped in Palm Beach first. I was never a fan of the pomp: the royal palm lined sidewalks, the shiny streets made to compliment the Rolls Royce's that hovered above. But it was now somehow different. As I walked down Worth Avenue the passers by seemed to sparkle, carrying bags from Chanel and Tiffany alike. Their shininess overwhelmed me. I was folding to the pomp.

Right now I'm prepping for the Bombay Gal photoshoot. I'm excited because I know it's gonna be FIRE! Shannas, the owner of Bombay Gal is a good friend of mine and keeps me fly. We met at Naira's "Worldwide" video shoot last year. Her shop was the locale for the India scene.

Bombay Gal used to be on Sweet Auburn, but she has since relocated to 1130 Euclid Ave in Atlanta Ga. For those of you who dont know, thats in the heart of Little Five Points, Atlanta's version of Greenwich Village.

Nas's accessory game is off the chain BTW. If your ever in Atlanta you should stop by. And if you're not in the A, her shop alone is WELL worth the trip.

Why you should listen to the postman.

Go Kenneth Cole. So many profound words from a man, who for some people, is just the tailor, just the guy who makes my favorite workpants, or that little black dress I love to wear to supper.

I'm not particularly a fan of his. Nor do I own any of his clothing. To me he's just a guy who makes things. But plenty of people make things. right? It dawned on me while watching this that I should pay attention to the people that -to me, at least- do mundain things. I find myself obsessed with people whom I think make things happen. But it's those who I generally whouldn't give a second look that can provide me with profound information that will ultimately change the way I listen to people, react to situations, live my life, and ultimately change the way I function in society.

I pay much attention to the words of bloggers and twitterers, and websites of different opinions and gossip. But I rarely have a conversation with someone outside of my immediate circle. In fact, I cannot remember the last time a had a completely refreshing conversation with a stranger that wasn't trying to get into my pants.

With that said, I must try and start to pay attention to those who don't immediately matter to me. God love the postmen, factory workers, haberdashers, bus drivers, wash house attendants, porters and fishermen alike. These are the people that I might really need to take a second gander at, rather, lean my shoulder towards, press my ear, and listen a little closer.

It's a wonderful day in MUGBEATER LAND.

This weekend I shot with Fashionista Bukky, KB of KB Productions, K. Woods(Saturday), and Mr. WASHINGTON(Monday).

They were both quite productive. Saturday's shoot was for Bukky's Line. Check Her Out. She's Hot. It was in Five Points which I had never been to befor, seeing as I just moved to the city. It's a pretty cool Area. My kind of people ya know.

Anywho, The shoot was Like NAIJA FEST 2008. I might sound um... a bit crazy, But I promise you, I have never been in a room with so many cool ass Naija Kids. I had a Blast.

Went on Vaca to Ft. Lauderdale.

Went to Langerado and saw thw roots and the Beastie Boys- which by the way are refreshingly hot. They stole the show for me. You HAVE to see them while they're on tour (check out http://www.beastieboys.com/tour/ for tour dates). They played Sabotage for the Finale. The weed smoking Hippies went WILD!!!!

They are SO eclectic. Like I said. I highly recommend it.
And of course the roots NEVER dissappoint. ?uestlove gets all my love. and Blackthought is highly underrated.

OH! and Yall missed my BIRTHDAY!!! MARCH 6th BABY!!

I had a blast with my homie Johne. She's one of my favorite people.

Yeah so um...

I'm not even going to go there.

How's everybody been? Thanks for the email's and all the love.

So let me tell you about my trip to the Beach....

MD said he wanted to change it up a bit, do some commercial and glamour instead of the usual highfashion beauty editorials. AND he wanted to shoot at the beach. This is how our convo went:

MD- We're gonna shoot it at the beach.

Me-what beach?

MD-It's only like 20 mins away

Me-Fuck that nigga! Aint no beaches 20mins away from tallahassee! You're full of shit. Last time you told me anything was a 20 min ride, I went through 3 cd's till we got there.

MD- You don't believ me?...Mapquest that shit then."

Needless to say. It was les than 20 minutes, cause it wasn't really a beach. It's this place called Lost Lake(creepy right). MD found out about it in this article in the newspaper. Apparently there were a series of police raids because dudes was going out there at night and having sex in the bushes and stuff. tee hee :o}

So I guess, MD thought it would be the PERFECT place to have a shoot. weirdo.

We got there and it was actually really pretty. White sand and evergreen trees. I know right? Like what the hell?

So we start shooting, and everything's gravy. Makini(the wife) is there helping out with the girls and we're having a blast.

So about an hour into the shoot I'm retouching Deannia's lipgloss and I start to feel a little dizzy. I'm putting on the final touches of shellack on Deannia's lips and then....

apparently my eye's rolled to the back of my head and I passed out.

All I remember is waking up with four beautiful women in front of a clear blue sky. I thought I was in heaven. But I wasn't. I just had low blood sugar.

One of the girl's we shot ran back to her jeep and got me some Chicklets.

After my body stopped shaking and MD(who completely ignored the situation by the way. He doesn't love me) finished shooting we got the heck out of dodge.

I have even gone as far as claiming her as the perfect example of how beauty fosters mediocracy.

However recent events have somehow swayed my opinion.

I don't care what anybody says. I've tried to hate. I've really tried my best. But

Beyonce is officially (because I said it) the baddest Bitch this side of the equator.

Now I said to myself, "Self." and myself said, "hmmm?"

"She needs to be assasinated so we can replace her."

CHURCH HERON. I really believe this is true. and with that said...

I am not a writing student, It is not my hobby. I'm a writer.

I am not a girl who likes makeup, It's not my hobby. I'm an artist.

in other words, I DON"T DO SHIT FOR FREE.

Which is why I will never work with CLUTCH MAGAZINE(if you can call it that) again.

clearly I'm still upset about the situation. Maybe I should save it so that I can have a more objective view of what happened.

Fuck that. My opinion is the only one that matter's in this blog.

The fitting went well ya know. They pulled chothes for all the girls. I got to see what kind of styles we were working with so that I could get my creative juices flowing. And I was excited about the shoot the next day:

Sans the fact that CLUTCH MAGAZINE had already printed my work in the beauty section of their magazine, (as a matter of fact, my work was the whole beauty section of their magazine) and failed to give me credit. PLUS! They posted listings of the makeup used, AND it wasn't the proper makeup. The listing weren't even brands I use! AARRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!

But MD convinced me(somehow) to do the shoot anyway.

now I remember.

The guy doing hair was a Frederic Fakkai stylist. He works at Green Peridot Salon in Tallahassee.

My girl Autumn got the hook up, cause he's her stylist.

That was the ONLY reason I was doing the shoot.

I don't feel like talking abou this anymore.

Long story Short. The location was hot. The girls were Hot. Hair and makeup was HOT. Cluth Mag and their "staff" is NOT.

They were throwing Autumn MAJOR shade because they didn't think she was the "model type". Basically the hoes was hating in full effect. It was terrible. And poor Autumn, the day before, just went through her own personal tragedy.

Actually, I can't say it was all of Clutch. The guys were sweet. But the girls, Out of control. They just made the environment uncomfortable for everyone. And there were like 15 MILLION people there. Shit, there was no room to breathe.

FYI

The most imortant people on a photoshoot are, in this order:

1. Photographer

2.Stylist

3. Hair and makeup

4. Models

That's it. Nobody else matters during filming. If the above listed cannot concentrate, and are distracted by foolishness the product shows their frustration.

Will post pictures later. In all honesty, I don't even want to see them.

Last night M.D called me and left an urgent message.

I get home from church and call him back.

Apparently someone on Model Mayhem Swagger Jacked my work real hard. I'm pissed you know. Pissed like David Bowie when he heard "Ie Ice Baby."

So I go online the next morning an sure enough...

He took me for my cookies to say the least.

I felt so used. Like I had been Hoed out.
So, I wqrote him a nasty message, that went a little like this:

When my photographer told me that someone had blatantly ripped my shit off. I didn't believe him. But... Here you are!FYI I work really REALLY hard at all of my creations. You, could not possibly know how much thought and planning go into my shoots. Anything I do comes from within. as far as I'm concerned Fuck the makeup, I AM AN ARTIST FIRST.
with that said: Come up with your own shit. Cheap immitations only make you look cheap.
So, come up with your own shit.

Needless to say, I'm a bit dramatic.
So he wrote me back and called me a trick bitch.
lol. I have to say... it was funny.

I esspecially like the wand. I was put on to this particular type in Japan. My sis (Shouts out to Emiko and the whole Hirasawa Fam) let me know what the deal was! easier to disinfect. Plus a smoother application. NO MORE SPIDER EYES!

The Beginning:

Okay well, enough of that. Got the pictures back from MD. And I must say. We are the future of fashion. We are THE NEW BLACK.

So Here's how the shoot came along. We started working with a stylist, this hot Indian(bindi, not feather) mujer named Asha Maddali. She's totally the shit. Look for her in the future. She goes around the world collecting jewelry and other accessories. I can actually say i was excited to work with her, and I don't get excited about anything but Jesus and money (in that order). He met her through Clutch Magazine.

We were shooting some of her amazing accesories. Marcus said he wanted to paint a black chick black. So my wheels went turning and I thought...TRIBAL! I went out and picked up these sick lashes. And that was that.

Oh! Oh! Let me tell you. We were supposed to shoot this chick Chanel. Beautiful. Dark skin. Really Grace Jones ya know. Apparently She's really flaky too. Cause she never showed, or even called. Which equals WACK AS HELL in my book.

So I had been telling MD about this chick Marie for like a week.
He checked out her pics and was kinda like ehhh. But I'm like MD. Feel my vision, check my status, and recognize, right? So he was sleeping on my girl-Not completely his fault(sometimes his brain gets in the way). And I of course ALWAYS moisturize my situation and preserve my sexy. So I'm usually right. Maria was on. She was hunting my ass DOWN!
Autumn joined along too. and we had a blast, cause you know I love Autumn. She makes me feel like my life is going places.

On my grind hard ya dig. B4 I move to the ATL(March) I need to get my portfolio righty tight tight. So I've been shooting with the illusive MD every week Fri-Sun. But Iv'e been geglecting the Fam Hard. So I decided to bring lil sis- Jazzy J, along 4 some quality time. + she needs to work on her port (equation: Ola+FAM= instant connection. I take care of my peoples).

We met wit MD on Sat. and brought her on. We shot on Sunday after church. So like... I knew Jazzy was hot... But The girl worked the HELL out of our shoots. Literally. Casting out bad hair demons and all. She so fly.

We shot this amazing colombian and Brazilian chick R. Acosta. (so fly) for the new Black campaign, and we shot this really pretty white chick. SHE was interesting.

Can't say I'd WANT to do it again though. It was wierd wa dig? I'd never want to be one to put folk in a box but... she was so Sorority. Like she lived in the house and everything.

but she was like this hippie vegitarian. Who new. Don't get me wrong. I love all of Gods children(not neccessarily like. But love) and all but pretty white chicks, the kind that EVERYONE thinks is pretty, generally can't understand the concept of beauty.

So while making Ms. Collgate 2007 into the ice queen from Chronicles of Narnia

you get alot of complaints. Like, "next time...Can we do sexy?"
